At this point I have the buttons at the place where I want them. They animate any time they load. I like the spinning, mostly because I felt it would appeal to the kids. Again I used the shine effect. There is not animation on the mouseOver
because I felt it that it would take the already excessive aninimation too far.
After having a sizing issue, the animation of the bee introducing the buttons slides of the page. That's an issue I had my eye on, but felt I could clean up after I got the navigation down.
In this animation, only the schedule button links to a subordinate page. So you can see the way those pages will be introduced. On the subordinate pages, I simplified the animation because I figure the user would want to hurry up and get to the info.
At this point there were several things I felt need to be done before I could make up the content for the site.
I need to add several user friendly helpers to the site.
I wanted to create some sort of navigation for the site once the user got into the subordinate pages. I felt that using the buttons again would bog down the site too much. Additionally, they take up most of the screen. There is hardly any space for information.
Solution: I decided to use a drop down menu with the same basic color scheme of leaf buttons.
Then I needed to create the rest of the subordinate pages and get all the animation for those done. I initially wanted to use the fancy letters falling effect on all the pages, but time constraints on the projects prevented me from using that. I end up simplifying the animation significantly.
Lastly, I had to link everything together. That presented more significant problems than I anticipated. The drop down menu that I created used a movie clip to appear and disappear. The buttons were in the movie clip and I could not get them to control the movie to navigate to other pages. After many attempted solutions I sought outside assistance at FlashKit.com.
I had come close to the right answer several times, but I didn't realize that you could call on a frame name independantly from the scene it was in. Unfortunately, after spending 2 class days trying to fix the problem (and doing other class exercised, I didn't have time to use the fancy letter effect I wanted on the headings. Thankfully, I didn't have to completely redesign my menu.
